Professional Teaching Papers

Brief Submission guidelines:

The professional teaching papers section is a fully peer-reviewed section of the journal, reviewed by the same AEJ team that reviews full (research) papers for the quarterly issue. A limited number of these TA papers will appear in the quarterly issues, but normally they will appear in the TA section in the months when there is no quarterly issue. Papers in this section do not need to be full-length papers or research-based papers. They may typically be 2000-3000 words long, but longer (and, in special case, shorter) pieces will be considered. There are three categories of papers:

* Contextualized descriptions of some original aspect of the author's teaching situation, that describe an innovative approach to classroom teaching, methodology, curriculum planning or action research.

* Practical teaching ideas, supported with a sound theoretical background. Authors should provide a detailed rationale and a critical reflection on what worked well and what didn't. Examples of the author's own materials and descriptions of teaching procedures are welcomed in this category. Normally authors should attempt to present ideas that can be modified and used in teaching contexts which involve Asian students.

* Well-documented and skillfully argued discussion pieces that present a new angle on some aspect of professional practice. Literature reviews on a given topic are not considered to be discussion pieces, although discussion pieces are likely to refer to relevant literature.

A variety of writing styles will be accepted for TA pieces: authors are encouraged to use their own unique "voice, rather than adopt an overly formal style. Different cultural styles of writing are particularly welcome. Papers should still be referenced and should use an APA format, but authors are advised not to over reference such papers. A maximum of ten references is recommended, and all items on the reference list must be referred to in the manuscript.

Some pieces submitted to the quarterly issue may be reclassified as TA pieces during the initial screening process. Authors who wish to submit directly to the TA section should make this clear in the submission e-mail.

All submissions should be submitted to asian_efl_journal@yahoo.com
