September 2002 Articles

The first article in this Journal is an international lawyer's overview of the future of teaching and the legal liabilities that teachers may one day carry. It emphasizes the growing importance of TEFL as profession. The author is an international lawyer currently working in Hong Kong .

The second article addresses the question which is often posed; namely what is the legal liability of a foreign teacher who is working in the English as a Foreign Language field across Asia. The following is a summation of that question. The author is an international lawyer currently working in Hong Kong .

The third article from China looks at implicit/explicit learning dichotomy in L1/L2. The author examines, and reexamines theories of L2 learning. Some scholars have tried to frame second language acquisition (SLA) within children as a neat and clean proposition. The question for examination is whether children learn a second language implicitly (rather than explicitly) in the same way they acquire it in L1.
