Authors of the contributions in the current issue live and work in 8 different countries and cultures: Saudi Arabia, Jordan, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Thailand. But they all share the same philosophy of ushering in innovation to benefit language learners.

Welcome to the Asian EFL Journal Volume 28 Issue 3.1 2021. In this edition we present papers from Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain and Jordan. It is worth noting that less than 5% of papers submitted for publication in fact make it through the various screening processes. This also suggests there is a rising global demand by authors who research areas of SLA but find difficulty in reaching an outlet where their research can be reviewed. It is suggested that university administrators and governments consider this when setting milestones that academics must reach in order to be considered for promotion or advancement or job interviews.

This edition of the journal has been enriched with research from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Pakistan, and Indonesia giving it a rich perspective to place the ESL/ EFL issues. The studies variously focus on four themes that are of enduring relevance to the EFL milieu: Technology, pedagogy, culture, and language use, with technology ruling the roost, a fact which is evidence of the vast change that has come over the language teaching-learning environments of today.

It is clear to the editors reviewing these papers that the pandemic has opened up many new avenues of research, pre-pandemic, pandemic responses and post-pandemic responses based on past research. Modes of delivery have been thrust into the spotlight with traditional classroom and pandemic responses being researched to present what the future will look like in second language acquisition teaching and research. Other papers herein also indicate the intense depth of research that global academics are putting into language acquisition research.

The Covid-19 pandemic did not hamper the willingness of researchers in sharing their ideas and well-written studies while there are opportunities to gather data and analyze them.

We welcome the readers to volume 28 1.2 of the journal which brings forth very diverse language research work from different parts of the world. As usual, the diversity of the experiences shared here is what makes the issue a unique addition to the international database but our endeavour to compile them in one issue is just one of many more such exercises. The reseach covers wide depth and time in this edition, reverting to Krashen’s hypothesis of the 1980s that gave the profession we are the lie blood to blossom, with a unique re interpretation of what the eminent professor saw long for our profession had grounded itself. Likewise, a look to back to a method of the 1980s-90s known then as neuro linguistic programming receives fresh insight and interpretation that will give rise to some interesting comments as we look at a method with modern day knowledge.
